Toronto Blue Jays at New York Yankees: Series Recap

Writer: Melvin SanabriaMelvin Sanabria

Game 1: 9/6/21, 1:05 PM (Jays win 8-0) Yikes. Nothing to see here as New York just laid an egg and have now loss 3 straight games. Jameson Tallion was actually good, he went 7 innings only allowing 3 runs and 3 hits. Yanks only had 5 hits all game and only had 2 more hits then errors (3). Gleyber Torres had an error and Gio Urshela shockingly made 2 errors. Have to clean it up in that department. At least give yourself a chance to win but playing clean baseball at the very least. This game was close, it was 3-0 heading to the 9th but then Brooks Kriske happened. He surrounded a solo shot and then a grand slam to Marcus Semien. Why was he put into only a 3-0 game? I don’t know ask Manager Aaron Boone. Why he is on a major league roster? I don’t know ask GM Brian Cashman. Tallion took the tough loss while Hyun Jin Ryu took the win. Ace and CY Young favorite Gerrit Cole takes the mound for game 2 tomorrow night, win a damn baseball game please!

Game 2: 9/7/21, 7:10 PM (Toronto wins 5-1) Uh oh. Things are getting bad in the Bronx. This loss was not the biggest story of the night, Gerrit Cole leaving his start early was. Although Cole said himself he doesn’t expect to miss any time and he said he wanted to get pulled before it got worse. No MRI or anything is expected to be scheduled so I believe we’re all in the clear as far a really serious injury. Anyway back to the game, they lost again. The offense was awful. Pitching wasn’t great but the Yanks were in the game. They out hit Toronto but couldn’t score. Rizzo’s RBI single was the only run that they could push across. Abreu, Rodriguez, Holmes, and Heaney would all pitch after Cole’s early departure. Luckily even though the division race with Tampa seems over, they still lead the AL Wild Card race so we’re all panicking because of Tampa but the wild card lead is still in tact. Cole took the loss and former Met Steven Matz got the win. Same time same place tomorrow as Luis Gil takes the hill for his 4th career start as he carries a 0.00 ERA into the game. Win a baseball game please.

Game 3: 9/8/21, 7:10 PM (Blue Jays win 6-3) New York continues their free fall dropping their 5th straight game. Luis Gil’s 4th career start was not as impressive as his first 3. He only gave up 1 hit so it’s nice to see he isn’t giving up hits but when you throw 91 pitches in 3.1 innings I think that’s a problem. He walked 7 and that was clearly the Achilles’ heel. Not gonna win many games when your starter walks 7. NY fell behind 3-0 in the 4th, but the old man Brett Gardner gave the Yanks some life and had the stadium rocking with an epic 3-run homer to tie things up. Unfortunately, the bullpen wasn’t good. Holmes, Green, and Chapman all gave up a run and the Yanks couldn’t mount another comeback. Holmes took the loss and Richards got the win. Things have to change soon. Game 4: 9/9/21, 7:05PM (Jays win 6-4) A disaster is brewing in the Bronx as the Blue Jays into NY and swept the Yanks in a 4 game set. Sheesh. Nestor Cortes was very good, he gave up 2 runs over 6 innings. He gave up a solo homer in the 6th and was very upset with himself as he threw his glove to the dugout wall. Gotta appreciate the passion he has and hopefully everyone has the passion too because things are not going well right now. After trailing 2-0, Rizzo would mash a game tying 2-run homer to bleachers. A tie wouldn’t last long as Sal Romano blew it the following inning, why is Sal Romano pitching in a high leverage game in the middle of a playoff race? I don’t know ask manager Aaron Boone. Sanchez and Voit would hit back to back homers in the 9th but it was too late. Andrew Heaney gave up 2 more runs in the 9th as well, those Sanchez and Voit homers would’ve tied the game if Heaney didn’t pitch. That guy simply is not talented and he is the worst pitcher in baseball. Romano took the loss and Berrios got the win.

My thoughts: I don’t know what to say. Yanks have lost 6 straight and have completely imploded. Bad situational hitting, starting pitching hasn’t been awful but aren’t getting run support, awful managing by Boone and just an overall disaster right now. Clean it up. What’s next? Toronto takes their 8 game winning streak to Baltimore for a 4 game set with the O’s. Toronto sits .5 games out of the 2nd wild card spot that the Yanks hold currently. Somehow through all of this, the Yanks are still currently in the playoffs. The Yanks head to Queens, to take on the crosstown little brother Mets in a fitting series as the 9/11 anniversary looms on Saturday and both NY teams will face off. Hopefully, they turn this around quickly. Go Yanks.
