Game 1: 7/30/21, 7:10 PM (Yankees win 3-1)
Yanks take game 1 in Miami behind Jameson Tallion’s impressive start. Tallion tossed 5.2 scoreless innings as he was in control throughout. Miami starter Zach Thompson was exceptional as well, pitching 5.2 innings of 1 run ball. This game was scoreless until the 6th, when newest Yankee Anthony Rizzo launched his 1st homer as a Bronx Bomber that went 450 feet, giving New York a 1-0 lead. In the 8th, Rougned Odor put the icing on the cake with a 2 out 2-run single making the game 3-0 and that felt like the put away hit. The Marlins would tack on a run in the bottom of the inning on a bases loaded double play by Brian Anderson cutting it to 3-1. Chapman would have an easy 9th to get the save and secure the win. Tallion took the win as he was as dominant as he’s ever been in his career in the month of July, 4 runs in 4 starts. Thompson took the tough loss.
Game 2: 7/31/21, 6:10 PM (Yankees win 4-2)
That’s another series win. Starter Domingo German wasn’t bad as he gave up 2 runs and 2 hits over 4 innings. His start was cut short because of the no DH rule and they did not want him to hit in a big spot in the 5th. In the 2nd, Rizzo was hit by a pitch and Giancarlo Stanton came up a few inches short of a 2-run homer but instead settled for a double, setting up 2nd and 3rd with nobody out. Odor singled in Rizzo making it 1-0, the next batter Gary Sanchez would hit a ground rule double scoring Stanton to give the Yanks a 2-0 lead. Some poor at bats by Tyler Wade, German, and Gleyber Torres ended the inning. German ran into a little bit of trouble in the 4th, as he served up an RBI triple to Jorge Alfaro and then threw a wild pitch to tie the game at 2. In the 5th, Rizzo again singled followed by a Stanton walk, Odor would fly out but both runners tagged and advanced. Gio Urshela would pinch hit for German, ending his outing and strikeout. Thankfully Marlins pitcher Anthony Bender would throw a wild pitch allowing Stanton to score making it a 3-2 Yankee lead. In the 7th, Rizzo would hit yet another towering home run making it 4-2 and that was all the bullpen needed. The bullpen combination of Leutge, Holmes, Green, and Loaisiga combined for 5 scoreless innings and 2 baserunners, shutting down Miami completely. Leutge picked up the win and David ahead picked up the loss.
Game 3: 8/1/21, 1:10 PM (Yankees win 3-1)
Yankees finally are able to sweep a team as they’ve struggled with sweeps all year. Jordan Montgomery was sharp, allowing only 1 run through 5 innings. Miami starter Sandy Alcantara was stellar, throwing 7 scoreless innings only giving up 2 hits. He unfortunately got no run support but left with a 1-0 lead. Miami got on the board quick in the 1st, another Brian Anderson groundout scored their only run of the game, as Monty and the bullpen cruised the rest of the way. Yanks wouldn’t score or even get anything going until the 8th with Anthony Bass pitching, Brett Gardner would single followed by a pinch hit strikeout by DJ LeMahieu, Stanton would come in to pitch hit for Joelys Rodriguez and ground into what should have been an inning ending double play, but instead Brian Anderson would bobble the ball and throw the ball into the outfield letting Gardner go to 3rd. Now it’s 1st and 3rd with 1 out, yet again Anthony Rizzo would tie the game on a RBI single, the next batter Aaron Judge would hit the go ahead RBI single bringing in Stanton but Rizzo would get thrown out trying to reach 3rd base and new comer Joey Gallo would strikeout ending the frame but giving the Yankees a 2-1 lead. In the 9th Miami pitcher, Dylan Floro, would get 2 quick outs. He allowed a 2-out single by Torres and then Gardner would ground into again what should have been an easy 3rd out, but 2nd baseman Jazz Chisholm would make not 1 but 2 errors on the same play, a fielding error then he threw the ball into left field trying to get Torres out at 3rd but Torres scored on that throw making it 3-1. Really bad baseball by Miami who came into the game leading the league in errors and that showed today. The Yankee bullpen was stellar yet again as Holmes, Rodriguez, Britton and Chapman combined for 4 scoreless to sweep the series. Joelys Rodriguez threw 1 pitch and got 1 out but picked up his 1st win as a Yankee while Bass would take the loss.

My thoughts:
Huge series sweep finally sweep a team. Can’t say anything but, wow! Anthony Rizzo came in and made immediate impact as he went 5-9 in his first series as a Yankee. Joey Gallo struggled a bit but did pick up a booming double in game 3. Gotta win series against these bad teams.
What’s next?
Miami stays home to take on the struggling Mets in a 4 game series starting Monday. The Yankees head back to the Bronx to kick off a 7 game home stand starting with the lowly Baltimore Orioles coming to town. Should definitely take 3 out of 4 at the least.
