Game 1: 8/23/21, 7:20 PM (New York wins 5-1)
10 in a row! Yanks prevail in a highly anticipated matchup of 2 teams on a 9 game winning streak. Unfortunately for Atlanta, their streak came to an end. It was a close game throughout and was tied 1-1 heading into the 6th. Starter Jordan Montgomery labored in his 2nd start since being back from the COVID IL but he ultimately escaped every jam and tossed 5 innings of 1 run ball and lowered his ERA to a 3.69 which is excellent. Giancarlo Stanton broke scoreless tie with an opposite field bomb to the 2nd deck, only he has that much power to drive a ball to right field into the 2nd deck. The Braves tied the game in the bottom of the inning on a Dansby Swanson solo homer, the only blemish on Montgomery’s line. New York bounced back in the 6th, Stanton would come through again with a clutch 2-run double to score Gallo and LeMahieu. Stanton is on fire over his last 10 games hitting a scorching .350 over that span. Gary Sanchez added some insurance in the 8th with a 2-run single making it 5-1 Yanks which is all they needed. Some great pitching and timely hitting in this one propelled the bombers to 10 straight wins. Loaisiga, Peralta, and Chapman closed the door on the win with Chapman picking up the save. Monty picked up the win while Huascar Ynoa took the loss. Yanks go for 11 straight tomorrow night.

Game 2: 8/24/21, 7:20 PM (Yanks win 5-4)
WANDY PERALTA ESCAPES A BASED LOADED JAM TO END IT! WOW. What a game. That’s 11 straight wins for the 1st time since 1954. That’s their 18th win in 21 games. These boys are behind on fire right now. Andrew Heaney didn’t give much length but he kept them in the game. He threw 4 innings and gave up 2 runs in the process, not bad. With an off day tomorrow the Yanks were willing to go to the bullpen at any time so it worked out. After Atlanta took a quick 2-0 lead in the 1st, Yanks chipped away. Stanton again got them going with an absolute bomb to center that traveled 420 feet, he’s on a tear ever since he’s been playing the field which he’s done a lot and he’s been playing the field at a high level. In the 4th, Gary again tied the game with an opposite field RBI single scoring Judge to tie the game at 2. The big blow came in the 5th, when LeMahieu roped a 2-run homer to give them a 4-2 lead. Braves got a run but to pull within 4-3 but an Odor nuclear missile came them some needed insurances done it turned out to be the game winning homer. The bullpen was great until Chapman ALMOST imploded, Peralta entered the game with 2 outs, bases loaded, and the reigning MVP Freddie Freeman up to bat and induced a game ending fly out and let us Yankee fans breathe and celebrate 11 straight wins. What a performance by Wandy, he’s got a 1.93 ERA since joining the Yankees the July, he’s moving a lot closer to joining the high leverage situation relievers along with Loaisiga and Green. Clay Holmes picked up the win while Charlie Morton took the loss.

My thoughts:
Yankees have looked unbeatable over the past month and a half showing no signs of slowing down. They have been pouring on runs and the their pitching has been amazing. Very nice to see a team with a lineup full of power to finally be showcasing it, they’ve hit A LOT of homers recently and I expect that to continue. What a stretch it’s been! They currently sit 4 games back from Tampa in the division and 3 games ahead of Boston for the 1st wild card spot.
What’s next?
Atlanta stays home for a brutal upcoming series with the league’s leading San Francisco Giants and followed by LA Dodgers, that’s gotta sting playing the Yankees, Giants, and Dodgers in 3 straight series. Yanks have an off day Wednesday before they head to the west coast for a 7 game west coast trip starting in Oakland on Thursday for a 4 game set. Oakland is struggling nightly and have fallen out of the wild card spot and they’ll face New York’s top 4 arms this series. Starting with Tallion, Cole, Cortes, Montgomery. Should be fun. Keep winning!
