Game 1: 8/19/21, 7:10 PM (Yanks win 7-5)

Another game, another win for the Yankees! New York has won 7 straight games and have positioned themselves nicely in the AL East and Wild Card races. Jameson Tallion cruised through 5 innings but ran into some trouble in the 6th that put a damper on what was a nice outing for him. He surrendered 3 runs over 5.1 innings, really sucks that he couldn’t finish the 6th. Yanks jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the 3rd behind an RBI double by Kyle Higashioka, a 2-run double by Luke Voit, and a sac fly by Anthony Rizzo. In the 4th, they tacked on 2 more via 2-run homer by Higashioka to make it 6-0. Tallion got into trouble in the 6th giving up 3 runs and Britton and Green would give up a run each later in the game. Giancarlo Stanton gave New York a 7-4 lead with a bullet homer. Twins got a run back off Green in the 9th to make it 7-5 but that was where it ended. Tallion picked up the win while John Gant took the loss.

Game 2: 8/20/21, 7:10 PM (Yankees win 10-2)

Yanks continued their tremendous stretch of baseball with a blowout win. Nestor Cortes continues to give New York very good innings as he tossed 7 innings allowing 2 runs. He’s been excellent and has an ERA of 2.56. Even when the injured starters like Severino and Kluber return in a week or so, Cortes has earned his spot in the rotation at this point. Yanks clobbered 3 homers and put up 10 runs. They jumped off to a 4-0 lead quickly in the 1st, Voit lined a 2-run single, Andrew Valazquez drew a bases loaded walk, and Brett Gardner lined an RBI single to make it 4-0 quick. In the 3rd, Aaron Judge continued his hot stretch clobbering a 2-run homer to make it 6-0. In the 4th, Voit smashed his 3rd hit of the game which was an RBI double scoring Joey Gallo making it 7-0. Minnesota put up 2 runs thanks to a Josh Donaldson 2-run homer, the only blemish to Cortes’ line. The bombers quickly answered with homers of their own. Voit mashed a solo homer and DJ LeMahieu smacked a 2-run homer of his own to make it 10-2 and that’s all they needed. Cortes took the win and Charlie Barnes took the loss.

Game 3: 8/21/21, 1:10 PM (Yanks win 7-1)

Yanks complete the 3 game sweep as game 4 has been rained out due to Hurricane Henri. That game is scheduled to be played sometime in September in New York. The Yanks remain the hottest team in baseball as they’ve now won 9 in a row, and have the best record in all of baseball since July 4th. Gerrit Cole had another strong showing in his CY Young caliber season. He tossed a 6 inning shutout and remains one of, if not the best pitcher in baseball this season, quieting all the critics. New York took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd courtesy of a Tyler Wade RBI single. In the 5th, Yanks pounded a rattled Kenta Maeda as Wade scored a wild pitch, Stanton roped a 2-run double and Voit followed up with a 2-run double of his own making it a 6-0 Yankee lead. Minnesota scored on the board off of Lucas Leutge in the 8th when Jorge Polanco mashed a solo shot. In the bottom of the inning, Bronx native Andrew Valazquez smacked his 1st career homer into the short porch. Cole picked up the win and Maeda took the loss.

My thoughts:

This is the best stretch of baseball I have ever seen a team play since I’ve been watching baseball my whole life. This Yankees team has completely turned their season around as there was chatter about everyone getting traded after possibly not making the playoffs this season. Yanks have pulled within 4 games of Tampa for 1st place in the division and are now leading the wild card race by 2.5 games. This team looks unbeatable and looks like the best team in baseball. Yanks have found their stride and aren’t even healthy yet. Severino, Torres, Kluber, and Urshela are all scheduled to return before the start of September. A fully healthy roster for September? Sign me up!

What’s next?

The Minnesota Twins take a short flight up to Boston for a 3 game set. The New York Yankees head to Atlanta, to take on the Braves who also happen to be on a 9 game winning streak. It’s only a 2-game set so hopefully the Yanks can take both games. Atlanta has completely taken control of the NL East so it should be a fun series. Game 1 is set for Monday night. Keep winning!
