Los Angeles Angels at New York Yankees: Series Recap

Writer's picture: Melvin SanabriaMelvin Sanabria

Make up Game 1: 8/16/21, 7:10 PM (Yanks win 2-1)

Yankees win the make up game from July against the Angels. All 3 runs scored in the game were scored in the 1st inning. Justin Upton hit a solo homer off starter Gerrit Cole. In the bottom of the 1st, Aaron Judge singled and then Joey Gallo brought him home with a 2-run blast to give the Yanks a 2-1 lead and the score held up. Cole pitched well in his return from positive COVID-19 testing. His line: 5.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 9 K. He cruised along after the homer from Upton. The bullpen absolutely crushed it today throwing 3.1 scoreless.

Bullpen Lines:

Britton: .1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

Abreu: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K

Rodriguez: .1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

Green: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

My thoughts:

Great game from the Yankee pitching staff as they shut down a pretty good offense in LA. Cole picked up the win and Jose Suarez picked up a tough loss.

What’s next?

The Angels head to Detroit to take on the confident Detroit Tigers in a 3 game set. The Yankees stay home for a HUGE 3 game set with the struggling Boston Red Sox. This is a potential season changing series for the Yanks. They need a big series win.
